The M186 coil explosive charge is designated in various nomenclatures as follows: - Model designation - M186. - Department of Defense identification code (DODIC) - M060. - National Stock No (NSN) - 8140-00-832-0215. - UN Serial number (code) - 0048.
The main area is the disruption or destruction of metal and wooden structures of complex shape (beams, pipes, poles, I-beams, cables), as well as the destruction of fuel tanks, felling = trees, etc. - Can be used underwater, since Flex-X is resistant to getting wet, but care must be taken to securely fasten the tape (the sticky layer does not work underwater, so wrapping and fixing with additional means are usually used). - It is not recommended for use for buildings, structures or earthworks due to the high cost and inexpediency of spending a large amount of such explosives.
The M186 charge is a "coil" version of the M118 block charge, but instead of separate sheets, one long strip of explosive is used. Adhesive film: one side of the tape has an adhesive layer, protected by paper tape. This allows the charge to be fixed to more or less clean, dry surfaces at temperatures above 0 °C. No ignition socket: there are no specially provided holes for detonators. To install the detonator, use: • An M8 detonator holder, or • A small piece of tape (or sheet of another charge), which is wrapped around the detonator and fixed to the main charge. If it is necessary to make several layers of explosive, the detonator can be inserted between the layers of tape. Each charge kit includes 15 M8 detonator holders and a canvas bag with a carrying strap. The charges are packed in wooden boxes in sets of three. Gross weight 52.16 kg. Net weight of explosives in the box 75 lbs. (34.02 kg.)
