The French company Alsetex has established production of LU 213 defensive hand grenades and LU 216 offensive grenades.
The fragmentation defensive grenade belongs to the so-called "grenades with controlled fragmentation", i.e. with semi-finished fragments, the radius of continuous damage of which differs slightly from the radius of lethal action. The grenade has an egg-shaped plastic body with longitudinal and transverse stiffening ribs. The bursting charge is surrounded by a spiral of notched wire weighing 100 g, on top and bottom of which 230 steel balls are placed. Thus, when the grenade explodes, a uniform field of fragments is formed in all directions, and the effectiveness of the grenade does not depend on its position at the time of explosion.
