Designed to incapacitate enemy personnel. The damage to a person is caused by the destruction of the lower part of the leg (foot) when the mine charge is detonated at the moment the foot steps on the mine's pressure cap. As a rule, when a mine is detonated, the foot of the enemy soldier's foot with which he stepped on the mine is completely torn off and, depending on the distance of the other leg from the explosion site, it may also be severely damaged or not damaged at all. In addition, the shock wave of a sufficiently large explosive charge deprives a person of consciousness, the high temperature of the explosive gases can cause significant burns to the lower extremities. Death can occur from pain shock or blood loss if medical care is not provided in a timely manner.
In all cases, the mine is put into combat mode manually. After removing the safety cut-off check, the mine cocking delay is initiated. Typically, the delay in putting it into combat mode is 12-15 minutes, and can vary depending on the temperature from 3 minutes at + 40° C to 59 hours (2.5 days) at - 40° C. As soon as the cutter in the form of a steel string cuts the lead element, the striker is held from contact with the detonator capsule only by the drum retainer.
Once cocked, the drum latch is held in place by a vertical cylindrical spring. The quality of the spring can deteriorate over time, which will reduce the holding force of the drum latch, and thus make the mine more sensitive to impact. The fuze is designed to be triggered when a force of approximately 8-25 kg is applied to the pressure plate.`
There are no non-extraction elements. It can be equipped with an ЭНО-ПМН non-disarmament device, which is screwed in instead of the standard MD-9 fuse, which looks similar to the SVP, so this mine is not subject to demining. It can be installed with non-extraction elements MS-3, ML-7 and ML-8
The mine is not equipped with a self-destruct device.
The mine can be installed both on the ground and in the ground, in the snow, manually or deployed by mechanized means (trailer minelayers PMZ-4P).
The mine cannot be demined. If the metal strip is still on the cover, the mine can be easily detected. Even without the metal strip, there are enough metal components in the mine to make it relatively easy to detect.
Color: - brown body with black casing. Marking: Standard, applied in white or yellow letters on the side or on the cover and contains: − PMN– mine code; − 15-156-78 – manufacturer’s code– batch number– year of manufacture (digits may be different); − T – equipment code.
