MON-90
Designed to incapacitate enemy personnel.
The mine is not equipped with detonators, but has two sockets in the upper part with a thread for the MD-5M fuse, the EDP-R electric detonator. Thus, the mine can be activated in one of two ways. The MON-90 is supplied in a characteristic packaging (the same size as the packaging for an 82 mm mortar mine) with a recess for an aiming marker on the lid that secures the mine. Sometimes the MON-90 can be found mounted on this storage box.
A person (or several at the same time) is injured when a mine is detonated by ready-made explosive elements (balls or rollers) that fly in the direction of the enemy in the sector along the horizon 540 to a distance of up to 90-99 meters. The height of the damage sector is from 30 cm near the mine to 8 meters at the maximum distance. The explosion is carried out by the operator from the control panel when the enemy appears in the damage sector, or if the soldier touches the MVE-72 or MVE-NS detonator break sensor.
The effectiveness of the mine depends very much on how accurately it is aimed. Therefore, in its upper part there is a sight, the field of view of which shows the sapper the zone of impact and serves for precise targeting of the mine and determination of the sector of impact. The mine is installed manually on the ground or attached to vertical surfaces (pillars, trees), while using a steel pin present on the lower surface of the mine, which can rotate horizontally and vertically using a hinge, covering the lower hemisphere. It can also be used with the MVE-72/MVE-NS detonator, which has a target sensor in the form of an inconspicuous thin break wire. Can be part of a set of controlled anti-personnel minefield, part of a set of kt k in NVU-P. When using improvised means, you can use a mine with a detonator of the MUV series with a fuse MD-2 or MD-5M. It can also be used as an object mine (with a VZD-144 detonator). The safe distance from the mine to the rear and sides is determined at 100 meters, but combat practice shows that already at a distance of 12-15 meters, there is no need to be afraid of shell fragments flying to the rear and sides.
