The TMA-3 was developed in Yugoslavia as part of an expansion of the range of anti-armor engineering weapons. Its design ensures the effective neutralization of tanks and armored vehicles moving on roads or rough terrain.

The mine has a disk-shaped body made of fiberglass, which makes it difficult to detect with conventional metal detectors. On the top of the TMA-3 there are three mushroom-shaped fuses. The mine is triggered when any of them is pressed, for example, by a caterpillar or a wheel of a vehicle. On the bottom of the body there is a threaded eyelet - for installing the mine in the soil, sand or snow in an unextracted state.
