The MC-5 mine is designed to engage manpower. It can be used as a detonator for detonating explosive charges.
The MC-5 mine looks like a cigarette case with a picture of a chess piece – a knight on a chessboard, which is the mine case. Inside the case is a mine body with a time-delay detonator and a charge. The mine charge consists of one tetryl and two TNT checkers. A metal element is installed in the upper part of the end of the body.
The mine can be set to trigger: 1. When opening the case – the striker pierces the MG-8-T detonator capsule, which instantly detonates the explosive charge; 2. When lifting the mine from the installation site – a metal element is triggered, which provides an impulse to trigger the detonator, which instantly detonates the explosive charge; 3. When removing the load (an object weighing at least 0.3 kg) from the mine – a metal element is triggered, which provides an impulse to trigger the detonator, which instantly detonates the explosive charge; 4. After the deceleration time to the “object” position has expired – the detonator operates with a deceleration from 15 minutes to 360 hours.
The MC-5 mine can be set to trigger: when the case is opened, when it is lifted from its installation site, when the load is removed, or after the deceleration time has elapsed. When using the mine as a detonator for detonating a BP charge, the MC-5 mine must fit snugly against the surface of the BP charge. The mine charge, when triggered, ensures the transmission of the detonation of the charge from TNT blocks through a wooden wall up to 20 mm thick
Installed MS-5 mines are not subject to demining.
