Often it does not break the track, but only damages it. Hitting a BTR-80 wheel mine causes damage only to the wheel rubber. The BTR itself retains its full mobility.
Structurally, the PTM-1 anti-tank mine consists of a polyethylene body, inside which is placed an explosive substance, a hydromechanical fuse, which is part of the mine's design, and a self-destruction system by explosion.
The transfer to the combat position begins when it is ejected from the dispenser and the pyrotechnic element of the cocking is triggered. The mine is transferred to the combat position with a delay of 60-100 seconds. After this delay, a spring-loaded rod aligns the axes of the detonator, striker and hydraulic fuse with the fuse.
Once the mine is in the firing position and sufficient weight has been applied to the mine body, the liquid explosive is forced through the holes in the fuze body. This raises the diaphragm and the internal components of the fuze until two locking balls are displaced, thereby releasing the cocked striker and detonating the mine.
There are no elements of non-removal, however, due to the fact that its self-liquidation time is from 3 to 40 hours and is not known for sure, it should also be considered non-removal.
Contains a hydromechanical self-destruct mechanism. The self-destruct mechanism consists of a cocked firing pin and a fuse. It can be set at the factory to operate after 6, 12, 20 / 3-40 hours.
Typically, mining is carried out using 122-mm and 220-mm shells (9M27K2 rockets, each containing 24 mines) of multiple launch rocket systems. The PTM-1 is not intended for manual installation. It is installed only on the ground. In the 9K57 Uragan MLRS, 9M27K2 and 9M27K3 missiles are used for the PTM-1. Each missile contains 24 PTM-1 mines and has a firing range of 7 to 34 km. On the downward part of the missile's flight path, the head part separates and the mines are ejected from the body by a pyrotechnic cartridge. At the same time, the process of transferring the mines to the combat position begins, which ends 60-100 seconds after the mine touches the surface. The 9K57 Uragan MLRS has 16 guides. The duration of the salvo is 9 seconds. One installation lays an anti-tank minefield with 384 mines with a front size of 400-900 m and a depth of 600 to 900 m. The average distance between adjacent mines will be 23-24 meters.
Such mines cannot be moved from the deployed position to a safe position or neutralized using manual means. PTM-1 mines should not be approached during their self-destruction period. If such mines are found outside the carrier rocket, they should be considered mines in the deployed position. PTM-1 was previously known as PGMDM, therefore the abbreviation PGMDM should not be used to designate this mine model in the future. A mine is dangerous for people due to the possibility of triggering the self-destruction system at the moment when people are near the mine, and when this will happen is usually unknown, therefore manual removal of mines from the minefield or their detonation on site is prohibited, and approaching a mine by people is prohibited. To neutralize mines, it is necessary to use roller mine trawls of the KMT-5M (KMT-7) type or demining charges of the UR-67, UR-77 systems or similar. It should be taken into account that deep snow cover, dense bushes, tall grass, swampy soil can lead to the fact that soil (snow) may be under the mines, which will not allow the caterpillar to exert the necessary pressure on the mine. In such conditions, from 16 to 40% of mines may be found. Mines that have not self-destructed can be destroyed by shooting from small arms from a safe distance.
Color: The mine can be painted green, gray-green, yellow-gray or brown-gray. Marking is mainly technological, in black letters or by extrusion (OTK stamp, etc.). Rarely there is a name: PTM1G.
