In addition, the shock wave can deprive a person of consciousness, the high temperature of the explosive gases can cause significant burns to the lower extremities. Death can occur from painful shock or blood loss in the event of untimely medical assistance. The power of the PMN-2 is approximately one and a half times lower than that of the PMN; There is some anecdotal evidence that the plastic body of this mine can produce plastic fragments that are very difficult for surgeons to remove, often leading to infections and possible double amputations of the lower limbs.
This mine has a distinctive cross-shaped rubber pressure plate designed to limit the mine's sensitivity to excessive blast pressure. The mine body is made of injection-molded plastic. The mine contains less than half the explosive of the PMN, although it uses the more powerful TG-40 hexogen (RDX) explosive. Like the PMN, the PMN-2 uses a transverse fuze system, although the actual fuze system is noticeably different. The PMN-2 fuze contains a cocked striker and an integrated detonator. Unlike the relatively simple lead shear check that initiates the cocking delay in the PMN, the PMN-2 has a much more complex cocking mechanism. It consists of a pneumatic bellows and a spring-loaded detonator. To cock the mine, a T-shaped cocking key on the side of the body is turned and removed from the body. When a weight of approximately 15 kg is applied to the pressure plate, it presses on the central piston, allowing the detonator to move into line with the firing pin.
The advantage of the PMN-2 mine over the PMN is that the remote cocking mechanism ensures high stability of the time for transferring the mine to combat readiness in 2-10 minutes, since it is almost independent of the ambient temperature.

The mine is often stored in a white polystyrene foam package and, if it is thrown near the mine installation site, this can be an indicator of the presence of a mine somewhere nearby. Thrown mine cocking keys can also be a good visual indicator.
The color is green or brown with a black cross and two versions of the covers with 12 or 4 ribs. The marking is standard, applied with black paint on the side wall and contains: − PMN-2 - mine code; − 2-15-78 - manufacturer's code - batch number - year of manufacture; − TG-40 - equipment code.
