The transfer to the combat position is carried out by applying several pulses from the PM-1 blasting machine, after which the step seeker is set to any contact except the 12th.
After the set deceleration time has elapsed, the clock mechanism is triggered, and the striker closes contact 14, which closes the electro-explosive circuit of the electro-ignition device EZU, which, when triggered, causes the mine to explode. Closing the electro-explosive circuit can also be caused by tilting the explosive or opening its cover - in this case, the tilt sensor or the ENE button is triggered. When closing the explosive circuit, current from the power source enters the EZU through the second (middle) plate of the step seeker. In the case of remote (controlled) detonation, the explosive is moved to the position for controlled detonation by pulses from the PM-1: the step seeker is set to contact 7 for series A; or to contact 6 for series B. A 100-AMC-U-2.0 battery is connected to the control wires, which causes the thermal relay to operate. After the contacts are closed, the explosive's electric circuit is closed.
The mine has a built-in ENI anti-extraction element, of an inclined type, which detonates the mine when it is tilted by 18°-30°, and an ENO anti-disarmament element, which detonates the mine when an attempt is made to open its casing.
The MZS mine is installed in the same way as the MZM mine, as an object mine. A chamber of the required size is arranged for the charge and explosive in the mined structure or a well of the required size is dug. The charge is placed in a prepared place. The MZS explosive is installed with the bottom down on a dense horizontal surface without a slope. In the case of a large composite charge, the explosive can be placed inside the charge. The explosive must fit tightly to the charge with the bottom or side part where the detonator is located. When installing an explosive with a tipping spring, it is inserted with its flat end into the bracket at the bottom of the case. A compact rigid load weighing at least 15 kg is installed on top of the explosive. The ends of the control wires are insulated and brought outside. The mine installation site and the ends of the wires are carefully masked.
