This mine, widely used by the Dushmans during the Soviet-Afghan War of 1979–89, caused a lot of concern to Soviet specialists when information began to arrive from Afghanistan that the Dushmans were using mines with a multiplicity device. That is, the mine explodes not under the first, but under the second, third, ... tenth ... car. In the samples of the mines that arrived, the specialists could not detect this device or device and demanded more and more new samples until the real reason was found out - a defect. An elementary, ordinary factory defect. The whole thing was that the holes in the explosive mechanism should be calibrated, but the low level of production led to the fact that some of the holes were not stamped, and plastic burrs got into others. As a result, the fuse worked unreliablely, giving failures. Therefore, some mines could work normally, others at a certain combination of speed and pressing force (random), and still others did not work at all. The mine is not the most successful among anti-track mines. Disproportionately high with a relatively small decrease in diameter. The presence of large stiffening ribs clearly does not correspond to the sufficient strength of the hull, but only increases the dimensions of the mine. The weight of the charge is generally insufficient for modern armored vehicles. In order to ensure reliable destruction of armored vehicles, the enemies often placed an additional charge of TNT weighing 10–20 kg under the mine. Such a super-powerful landmine completely disabled a Soviet armored personnel carrier with the destruction of the crew and the landing force, and the tank often completely failed.
Designed to disable tracked and wheeled enemy vehicles. Enemy vehicles are damaged by destroying their chassis when the mine charge explodes when the wheel (roller) hits the mine's pressure cap. The mine can be installed both on the ground and in the ground.
The mine body is made of impact-resistant plastic and consists of two parts connected by a threaded connection. The upper part of the body also has a thread for attaching a ring with a pressure cap (target sensor). The mine is equipped with fused TNT. For manual carrying of the mine on the body there is a rope handle, threaded through the holes in the ribs of the body. The combat life of the mine is not limited. The mine is not equipped with a self-destructor. It does not have elements of non-disposability and non-removability, as well as sockets for additional detonators. The mine does not have any fuses and is transported without a pressure cap before installation, which is simultaneously an explosive mechanism with an additional detonator. When installing, the upper ring is unscrewed, the pressure cap is installed and the ring is screwed into place. From this moment on, the mine is in combat position.
The principle of operation is pneumatic. When the target impacts the pressure cap, air flows from the upper cavity of the explosive mechanism to the lower one through a calibrated hole. After the air pressure reaches a critical value, the flat disc spring, curved up to this point, bends sharply down, compresses the striker spring and simultaneously shifts the outer part of the detonator body down until the holes in the inner part of the detonator body and the outer one coincide. When the holes coincide, the ball blocking the striker rolls out freely, releasing the striker, which hits the detonator capsule. The latter, exploding, transmits detonation to the main charge
To neutralize mines, it is necessary to remove the camouflage layer, pull the mine out of the ground with a cat, and then: unscrew the fuse in the TS-6.1 mine, unscrew the fuse from it, and screw the fuse onto the mine; the combat fuse is the color of the mine, if it is blue, a plug (the shape and size are identical to the fuse).
