The enemy vehicles are damaged by piercing the tank bottom with a cumulative jet when the mine charge explodes at the moment the tank is over the mine. In this case, the tank is completely disabled, usually with the death of the crew. If a tank hits a mine with its tracks, the explosion takes on a normal high-explosive character, due to which the tank track is broken, the roller is destroyed, and the balancer is often damaged.
The mine is placed on the ground, in the ground, in the snow manually or using mechanized means - a tracked minelayer GMZ-3 or a helicopter mine-laying system VSM-1. For carrying, the mine has a removable handle made of green nylon tape. The handle is mounted in a special bracket on the bottom of the mine. If the mine is placed using mechanized means, then the handle is removed before loading the mine into the carrier.
The fuse is very sensitive to changes in the magnetic field and can cause a mine to explode if a person carrying metal objects (helmet, weapon, shoes with nailed soles, etc.) approaches it or even if the mine itself moves closer than 200m to high-voltage power lines, operating radars and powerful radio stations. Any electromagnetic influences (magnetic field, radio radiation from a mine detector) will cause the detonator to be triggered. Mine detection is usually carried out by visual observation. Persons searching for mines and transferring them to a transport position should not have any ferromagnetic objects with them: weapons, shovels, helmets, knives, feelers, etc., and shoes with steel horseshoes and nails. Mines are best trawled. Trawling such mines does not cause problems. The EMT trawl works reliably and detonates mines at a safe distance from the machine. It is forbidden to: 1. Bring ferromagnetic objects to a mine that has been put into combat position and remove them from it; 2. Search for mines that have been put into combat position with probes (even not steel ones); 3. Manually defuse mines installed with a masking of the detonator (there may be ferromagnetic objects in the masking layer).
The mine is painted in olive green. The marking standard is applied with black paint on one of the side walls of the mine and contains: − TM-89 - mine code; − B-01-07 - manufacturer's code - batch number - year of manufacture (the numbers may be different).
