It is intended for disabling enemy personnel. A person (or several at the same time) is injured by ready-made explosive elements of the mine (balls or rollers) and fragments of the mine body when it is detonated at a height of 0.6-0.9 m from the ground after throwing it with a powder ejector charge and poison, which is triggered at the moment when an enemy soldier, having caught his foot on the wire extension, pulls out the detonator's combat check.
The mine consists of a steel body with a charge of explosives, explosives (2400 rollers or balls) placed in it; a powder charge; a tension wire, an internal firing mechanism, a fuse. The upper part of the mine has a displaced socket with a thread for the fuse and a central socket for the detonator, closed with a steel plug. The striking elements of this mine have the form of pre-formed fragments of chopped steel rod.
The time it takes to bring a mine into combat position after removing the safety check depends on the type of MUV series detonator.
The mine explodes, bouncing to a height of 0.6-0.9 m, hitting soldiers with 2,400 pieces of hull and explosive device fragments with a diameter of about 5 mm, within a radius of 30 meters.
It has no non-extraction or non-disarmament elements. It can be set to non-extraction using an MS-3, ML-7, ML-8 surprise mine, or homemade surprise mines.
The mine is not equipped with a self-destructor. It does not have any non-extraction or non-destruction elements, but the high sensitivity of the MUV and MVE detonators makes the mine impossible to defuse.
The mine is installed manually in the ground, and if it is impossible to install it in the ground, it is installed on the ground (in this case, the mine is tied to a stake driven into the ground).
The mine is not equipped with a self-destructor. It does not have any non-extraction or non-destruction elements, but the high sensitivity of the MUV and MVE detonators makes mine detonation impossible. OZM-72 mines installed with MUV, MVE-72, MVE-NS detonators must not be defused (removed)! OZM-72 mines installed with MUV-3, MUV-4, MVE-72, MVE-NS detonators are destroyed by trawling with "cats" or by passing tanks. When trawling with "cats" manually, throwing the "cat" onto the minefield and pulling it up is carried out only with a special tool (for example, a specially torn off trench). Only mines placed in controlled minefields are permitted to be removed after they have been rendered safe (control panels are switched off). The OZM-72 is usually supplied in sets of six mines in a wooden box with foam packing inserts, which, if discarded near the location of the mines, can be an indicator of their presence.
The color is green. The marking is standard, applied with black paint on the side wall and contains: − OZM-72 - mine code; − 912-278-80 - manufacturer's code - batch number - year of manufacture (the numbers may be different); − T - equipment code (the BP code in the marking may be absent).
