Designed to incapacitate enemy personnel. The large size of the mine means that it can also be effective against lightly armored targets. When a mine is detonated, a person (or several at the same time) is hit by explosives (rollers) that fly towards the enemy in a narrow beam about 10 meters wide at a distance of up to 220 meters (with a probability of hitting 90%).
Like the MON-100, the MON-200 has a single M10 threaded fuze in the center of the concave surface of the body. It can accommodate both an electric and a non-electric detonator. The mine is also equipped with a canvas handle on the side of the body for carrying. The mine's striking elements are 900 pieces of chopped steel rod. Each piece of rod has a diameter of 10 mm and a length of 12 mm. The fragment is placed in epoxy resin directly behind the convex side of the mine body.
When installing the mine in the controlled version, the detonation is carried out by the operator from the control panel when the enemy appears in the sector of destruction. The mine produces a very dense, narrow beam of fragments.
The mine is installed manually on the ground or attached to local objects (just like the MON-100). For this purpose, the mine has a special bracket that can be driven into local objects. The bracket is equipped with mounting lugs that provide the ability to target the mine. The mine is installed, as a rule, in a controlled version and explodes from the electric current of the EDP-R detonator or mechanically (with a MUV or MUV-2 detonator with an MD-5M fuse and tensioning with a pull wire). However, it is extremely difficult for the operator to determine whether the enemy is in the detonation zone. It is necessary to aim the mine very precisely, and it is not equipped with any aiming devices. Therefore, the MON-200 mine is proposed to be used only by groups in narrow places (defiles, gorges, narrow streets, passages). The safe distance from the mine to the rear and sides is set at 35 meters, but combat practice shows that individual fragments of the hull and bracket fly to the rear and sides for a much longer distance.
The color is green or brown. The marking is standard, applied with black paint on the side wall and contains: − MON-200 - mine code; − B-2515-1-74 - manufacturer's code - batch number - year of manufacture (the numbers may be different); − T - equipment code.
