It is intended to incapacitate enemy personnel. A person (or several at the same time) is injured by fragments of the mine body when it is detonated at the moment when an enemy soldier, having caught his foot on the wire tension, pulls out the fuse.
The POMZ-2 mine is a hollow cast iron casting. A 75-gram TNT bomb is inserted into it from below. A detonator with an MD-2 fuse is inserted into the body through a vertical channel. The mine body is mounted on a wooden peg.
There are no elements of non-extraction and non-disposal.
The mine is not equipped with a self-destruct device.
The mine is installed manually on a wooden peg driven into the ground, which is included in the mine kit. The second peg is installed 4 meters from the mine and a wire tensioner is pulled with a sag from the peg to the mine's combat check. It can be installed with two wire tensioners on two pegs.
The very high sensitivity of the MUV detonator (if used) makes mine clearance extremely dangerous. It should be remembered that when setting mines in the forest and thickets of agar aga nik in anticipation of snow drifts, mines can be tied to thick trees or installed on stakes at the height of a person's chest. Disposal of POMZ-2 mines installed with the MUV-2 or MUV-3 detonator is prohibited! They are destroyed at the installation site by trawling with cats, which throw themselves onto wire extensions from cover.
