The PTKM-1R mine is designed to hit armored vehicles in the upper hemisphere as they pass from the mine installation site. The zone of action is linear-circular with a target range of up to 50 meters. It is stated that the level of armor penetration is not less than 70 mm.
The mine consists of a transport-launch container and a combat element. The transport-launch container consists of a positioning device with 8 folding legs, a detonating device, a power source, a rotary platform with an electric gear, which directs with 4 folding acoustic sensors fixed on it, a piston and a charge. In the transport position, the legs of the positioning device and the acoustic sensors are fixed in the folded state with a locking ring. A seismic target sensor is fixed on one of the legs. The combat element consists of a warhead of the "UYA" type, a detonating device, a power source, two pulse jet engines, infrared and radar target sensors. The combat element is fixed in the guide of the transport-launch container. The warhead consists of a body, a charge, a detonation distributor and a cladding. The pulse jet engines are fixed at an angle to the axis of the combat element.
After the end of the erection time, the mine goes into combat duty mode: the locking ring is released, the paws are opened, the target acoustic sensors are deployed, and the target search by the seismic sensor begins. When the armored vehicle approaches a distance of 100 m from the mine installation site, the seismic sensor detects the target and issues a command to bring the mine to a combat position: the guide tilts by 300 from the mine axis, the acoustic sensors begin to function. The acoustic sensors determine the direction to the target and issue a command to turn the guide towards the target, and then track the target and aim the guide at it. The seismic target sensor determines the distance to the target. When the target approaches a distance of 50 m from the mine installation site, the seismic sensor issues a command to fire the warhead: the ejector charge is triggered, the powder gases act on the piston and eject the warhead from the guide at an angle of 600 from the horizon with an initial speed of 30 m/s. Furthermore, the pulse jet engines are triggered, while the combat element spins up. After that, the search for the target begins with infrared and radar sensors. Due to the rotation of the combat element, the surface is scanned first along a divergent trajectory, and after rising to maximum height along a converging spiral trajectory. The combat element moves along a parabolic trajectory with a maximum height of 30 m. When the target is detected by the sensors, a command is issued to detonate the warhead. At the same time, a UY is formed, which hits the target in the roof of the hull or turret.
There is no information on whether the mine contains any non-removable element.
The PTKM-1R is equipped with a self-destruct mechanism, the maximum delay period of which is 10 days.
Mine installation is performed only manually.
