The mine is intended for mining the coasts of seas, rivers, lakes and reservoirs, with currents up to 0.5 m/s, against landing craft and floating armored vehicles.
The mine is supplied in a KPDM-4 cassette together with a combat float and anchor, one mine in one cassette.
When installed, the cassette dives to the bottom, after 9 minutes the mine is detached from the cassette, the anchor remains on the ground, and the mine rises to the length of the minrep connecting the mine to the anchor.
When the magnetic field of a vehicle or armored vehicle affects the mine's detonator, it explodes.
Mine cassettes are installed remotely using a portable PKM mine laying kit, a universal minelayer UMP, a VSM-1 helicopter mine laying system, or manually.
